Vale of Leven met Greenock for the third time this season in a league clash at Millburn Park. Greenock were without three suspended players for this game in John Paul Dow, Mark Sweeney and Tam Docherty, while Vale had made changes defensively with Stevie Gow coming in for the suspended Brian Wardle and Kevin Goodwin for Chris Dalrymple, who was getting married.

Greenock took an early lead after Maclaurin saved a Graeme Black drive from the right. The ball wasn't cleared however and Bowie knocked the ball in from a couple of yards out. It didn't take Vale long to equalise however when Chris Gentile crossed from the left and Hugh Ward scored with a rare header.

In the second half Vale were the better of the sides and their pressure eventually paid off when Ward and David Meechan found themselves two on one with the defender. Ward slipped the ball to Meechan who made no mistake to make it 2-1.

Greenock fought hard to get back into the game but Vale held out for their first 3 points of the season.
