Having already secured their place in the first division for next season Vale proceeded to end the season with a performance that was at best woeful against an already doomed "Ant's" side who got the three points required to avoid finishing in bottom spot. The fact that Vale have lost 15 points to the 3 relegated sides tells its own tale. How relieved Vale must be to have won their penultimate game as that single win from their last six games was the one that in the end kept them up. Once again Vale were hampered due to injury, suspension and holidays but they should still have been good enough to finish the season on a high. Unfortunately "Ant's" hit Vale with early goals in each half to claim the points. Firstly Maclaurin blocked McColgan after only 9 minutes but the ball bounced high to Nesbitt who headed into the empty net. |

The winning goal came 6 minutes into the second half when McColgan was given too much room out on the right touchline and his left foot shot flew into the net via Maclaurin's far post. On a disappointing evening only man of the match Jim Meechan, Bryan Boal and substitute John McLaughlan deserved pass marks. |
